3-things-a-life-coach-absolutely-is-not

disclaimer: I don’t really call myself a coach anymore. But coaching IS part of what I do.

Sometimes folks hear the word coach, and immediately think of sports. It’s a fair assumption. Coaches bring their experience, their training, and their encouragement to the people they’re coaching. Great coaches know the importance of practice, and have a deep love of the game.

There’s a big difference, though.

I’m never going to tell you what your next play is. Ever.

I’ll give suggestions, I’ll ask questions, but really, it’s this coach’s job to let the client (that’s you) decide what’s best.

I can’t fix you. You’re not broken.

A coach isn’t a therapist or counselor.

Therapy is an important tool for staying healthy. While your past is an incredibly important part of your story, a coach will focus more on goals for your present and future, and how to help you bring more joy into your life. And I’m all about honoring the tough stuff, while continuing to seek joy.

A coach isn’t your bestie.

Yeah, I know I said buddy-for-hire once. And in a way, that’s still true. I’m here to listen and give suggestions. I’m here for you to bounce ideas. I’m here to ask the occasional hard questions. And of course, to laugh.

We laugh a lot.

I’m here to help you figure out what you want to do with your time, with your energy, with your lovely and precious life. To help you find focus and direction.

I’m gonna help you actually do the things you want to do, and help you make the changes you want to make.
