Is there something you’re hanging onto, or clinging to for dear life? It’s time to consider: Is it worth it?
Do you really need this to continue?
Or is it holding you back?
Maybe the answer is yes. Maybe the answer is no. In my own life, there are things I’ve been clinging to, hoping for, longing for. Some of them are worth keeping.
Some aren’t.
So it’s time to start letting go.
Fall is a wonderful time to let go, but really, all you need is a willing heart and something to represent whatever you’re letting go of. I’m using flowers. And moving water.
Gather up some blooms.
They can be dried out blossoms, past their time, or fresh new blooms. It doesn’t matter. These Black Eyed Susans are blooming in my jungle garden right now.
Don’t have flowers? Leaves work. So do blades of grass.
Find your way to some moving water.
A river or creek. Hell, even a drainage ditch will do.
Carry your blooms with you.
As you make your way to the water’s edge, grip the flowers tight in your hand. Tighter and tighter.
Feel how you’ve been hanging on to these things that you don’t need, these things that felt so important but ultimately, they’re no good for you anymore.
These things that no longer serve you.
As you hold them tight, name them. A fear. A possession. A person. Maybe you’re releasing part of something.
Right now, name it.
Breathe it in. Hold it tight. Squeeeeeeeeze it with everything you’ve got.
And now, let it go.
Exhale, and release the blooms out into the water. Drop, toss, or chuck em.
Wave goodbye to those flowers and everything they represent. Shed some tears if they come. Or maybe laugh.
Watch them float away.
How do you feel?
Lighter? Easier? A little sad, maybe?
Thats okay too.
You’re gonna be okay.
Place your hands over your heart. Notice all the room you’ve made by letting go.
What now?
You might want to sit down and write or reflect.
You might want to go for a walk.
You might not want to do much of anything at all.
It’s all right. You’ll be alright.
Because you let go.
