I don’t know anyone who couldn’t use a little simplicity right now.
This list is short and sweet. But if you’re feeling overwhelmed, just pick one. Start where it’s easy. Because simple…ain’t always easy. Running is simple. Put one foot in front of the other as fast as you can. But easy?
Huff, puff, hack…nope.
But don’t worry, there’s ease to be found. I really like easy.
These are all things that I do or have done at some point in my life. This makes more room for joy, and that’s a lifesaver.
Plan Your Week
Once a week, sit down with your calendar and plan the following week. Plan your meals, errands, household projects, and any other responsibilities. Fridays are awesome for this, but you pick the day that works best. It will help you get clear on what to expect for the week, so when the unexpected arises, it’s so much easier to roll with it.
Another tip? Eat the same thing for lunch every day. It will simplify your meal planning, and maybe even help your digestion.
Have a Morning Ritual
A morning ritual helps you win the day. And who doesn’t want to win the day?
Right now, my morning ritual is super short.
- Make the bed
- Set up the day’s vitamins
- Do at least 15 minutes of Yoga
- Plan the day in my Desire Map Planner
That’s it. If you need ideas for your morning ritual, read this post.
Get. Off. Social. Media.
For the past 5 or so years, I’ve honored Fuck Facebook February.* I stayed away from my personal FB for a whole month. It’s always incredibly hard at first, I usually have to change my passwords and log out of everything. The first few days were the hardest. But it freed up so much time to do the things I truly love, and I was so refreshing when I returned.
*This year, with the political climate and so many of my FB friends being activists, I didn’t fast. I have limited my time, but it felt important to stay connected. Honor your limits, and go with what feels right.
Outsource.
Hire a housecleaner. Some laundromats offer laundry services. Hire a meal service. Some local grocers even offer online shopping. Hire someone to do yard work/snow removal.
I know these things aren’t all always affordable. But if there’s one thing you hate doing, consider outsourcing it. Let the pros handle it! Maybe try it once and see how it feels, if you can’t outsource all the time, save it for when you just can’t get to it all.
Having someone come and clean my house was really tough. It seemed like a luxury, and I thought I enjoyed cleaning. The truth is, if I enjoyed cleaning, I would do it. So, I hired the local Merry Maids and twice a month, let them do my dirty work. There’s nothing more lovely than coming home to a shiny house, especially one that was cleaned with products that are safe for your family.
Get a Monthly Subscription for Self-Care
It depends on what you call self-care, but for me, Goddess Provisions has been such a treat. I’ve only received two boxes so far, but they’ve been such a source of inspiration and joy in my daily life. As a notsosecretwoogirl, I’ve enjoyed this immeeeeensely.
There you have it. Remember, just pick one to start. Keep it simple.
Making things simple will help the flow of your day.
And helping the flow of your day? Helps the flow of your LIFE.
