simple-self-care-for-when-you-really-dont-wanna

When things suck, about the last thing we want to do is take care of ourselves. Let’s face it, it’s usually easier to wallow in our self pity, binge on netflix, eat crunchy food and drink wine.

Honestly, a little of that IS self-care.

It can be really nice to take a day to embrace the suck. Sometimes, it’s absolutely necessary.

Eventually not feeling good doesn’t feel good anymore. It’s time to stop wallowing.

Now, I’m not saying “buckle up and deal with it” is the only way to handle tough times. It isn’t. If you can, just try to take the first step forward.

So here’s what you do.

You start where it’s simple.

Ask yourself:

What’s something I like to do? What’s something I can do that I know will feel good?

A long bath.
A short walk.
A chat with someone you trust.
Listen to a song you love. Dance if it feels right.

Now that you know what will feel good…

Commit.

Commit to doing one thing that you know will make you feel good, and will move you forward. If you can, commit to doing something every day.

Write it down.

Write it on your mirror, on a post it note, create an alarm or reminder on your phone. Put it in the calendar. Write it down, and then do it.

It’s okay if you don’t think you’ll be able to do it every day. Just do it today.

You’re worth it.
