Angie Olson teaches Yoga at Finding Serenity’s on-site studio, and she is starting a super yummy Sunday night Restorative Yoga class. Angie’s classes are just amazing. She’s a talented and gentle teacher. She’s ready to tell you more about this fantastic practice, and how it will help you feel relaxed, rejuevenated, and completely restored:

So what is Restorative Yoga? Simply put it’s the easiest and most relaxing yoga you can do. Restorative Yoga is an ALL LEVELS CLASS that focuses on passively opening up the body through supported poses held for several, tranquil minutes (using blankets, bolsters and the like).

Restorative Yoga also incorporates long, deep breathing techniques and aromatherapy, allowing the body to soften and the mind to let go. Letting of your thoughts will allow you to focus on your inner being, your infinite energy, the deep down you that is so often overlooked and under acknowledged. Your soul within has all the answers, take time to slow down and listen.

Next time you have about 10 minutes I encourage you to try the following:

  1. Lie down on your back (use a mat or other soft surface)
  2. Lift and Rest the backs of your heels on the edge of a couch or chair (or your legs can be bent with the entire calves resting on the couch or chair)
  1. Rest your arms comfortably (at your sides, palms facing up if that feels good)
  2. Close your eyes
  3. Inhale and exhale deeply for about 10 minutes

You’ve just done Restorative Yoga!

There are so many other yummy, gentle Restorative poses (many of which include mini massages). I invite you to join us at Finding Serenity Sundays at 6:30pm for more! When you passively open the body (by practicing Restorative poses) the body is releasing stress and detoxifying even though you’ll barely know it. It feels amazing and you will certainly get an awesome night’s rest making Restorative Yoga the perfect practice to start your week off right.

Restorative Yoga is perfect for all levels. No matter where your yoga practice is now (from non-existent to seasoned yogi) everyone can use Restorative Yoga in their lives. In a world of go, go, go; stillness of the mind (and body) is a continuous practice we can all benefit from.
